Кафедра иностранных языков представляет курс ТОМАС БИВИТТА по системам автоматизированного перевода. За 8 занятий вы научитесь использовать профессиональные инструменты, позволяющие до минимума сократить время перевода научного текста. Количество мест в группе ограничено.

Course in Computer-Assisted Translation (Ru-En)

Do you struggle to write scientific papers in English? Would you prefer to write in your native language and then translate into perfect English at a very low cost? Perhaps you would like to assist your colleagues in translating publishable English texts?

If so, then you may be interested in attending the new course hosted by Thomas Beavitt at the Kafedra of Foreign Languages, Ural Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences. During the 8 week-course (2 hours per week), you will learn how to use Wordfast Anywhere (free cloud-based Computer-Assisted Translation tool) to easily and seamlessly translate complex articles – or any other document on any subject – into impeccable English.

The course will cover:

  • Creating a Wordfast Anywhere account
  • Uploading source documents (Ru) into the cloud (allowed formats include .rft, .docx, .pdf, .xlsx, .tmxl, .html and others)
  • Setting up machine-translation engines (Google, Microsoft, Yandex, MyMemory, WorldLingo, etc.)
  • Setting up and using a translation memory (TM) and glossary
  • Setting up and using custom keyboard shortcuts for rapid navigation
  • Using online dictionaries and other research tools
  • Basic translation theory
  • Handling terminology and phraseology
  • Transformations and substitutions (English sentence structure)
  • General troubleshooting

All graduates of the course will benefit from a special service, including technical, TM and glossary support, plus a reduced per-page native proofreading rate.

Students must bring their own laptops (Mac, Windows or Chromebook) with Google Chrome installed. Places are strictly limited to 8 per course.
