Academician of the RAS Sadovsky Michail Vissarionovich

Sadovsky Michail Vissarionovich graduated from the Faculty of Physics of the Ural State University (Sverdlovsk) in 1971. In 1975 he defended his candidate thesis; in 1986 he became a Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. In 1971-1974 he is a post-graduate student of the Department of Theoretical Physics of the Lebedev Physical Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences (FIAN, Moscow). In 1974-1987, he worked as a research associate at the Institute of Metal Physics, the Ural Scientific Center of the USSR Academy of Sciences (Sverdlovsk). From 1987 to 2011 M.V. Sadovsky managed the Laboratory of Theoretical Physics at the Institute of Electrophysics, the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Yekaterinburg). In 2011- 2013, he was a head of the Laboratory of Quantum Theory of Condensed State at IMP UB RAS. Currently, M.V. Sadovsky is a Senior Scientist of this laboratory and research advisor of the Department of Theoretical Physics of IMP UB RAS. In 1991 – 2010, he was a professor of the Department of Theoretical Physics of the Ural State University. M.V. Sadovsky has released over 150 scientific papers in the field of condensed matter theory.

His research interests are concerned with the electron theory of disordered systems (the Anderson localization, a pseudogap) and the theory of metal - insulator phase transitions, the theory of superconductivity (disordered superconductors, high temperature superconductivity). Among his major discoveries are: a field-theoretic approach to the theory of localization, to the self-consistent theory of localization, to the theory of superconductors near the Anderson transition’ exactly solvable models of the pseudogap state, and models of the effect of disorder on the Peierls transition. In recent years, M.V. Sadovsky is working on generalizations of the dynamic mean field theory in the theory of strongly correlated systems and conducting theoretical research of new high-temperature superconductors based on iron.

In 1994 he was elected an Associate Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in 2003 – a Member of RAS. In 2000, he became a laureate of the A.G Stoletov Prize of RAS. Since 2003, he has been a member of the Presidium of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

To date, M.V. Sadovsky is a member of the Bureau of the Department of Physical Sciences of RAS, a member of the editorial boards of such journals as “Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Physics (JETP) and “Physics-Uspekhi”, a Fellow of the Institute of Physics (UK, 2002), a Deputy Chairperson of the Commission of RAS to combat pseudoscience and falsification of scientific research.
